Evergreen Community Church opened its doors in Manassas in October 1998. Dave Blum, Tom Millar, and Daniel Hall planted the church along with their wives, 50 other adults and $17,000 in start-up money from numerous Christians across the country. Its roots, of course, can be traced back to God’s work in each of their lives in years past.
Dave made a commitment to Christ at age 17 and connected with a Great Commission Ministries (GCM) campus church at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 1975. He and Vanessa met there and were married in 1979. In 1985 they moved to Wilmington, DE, as part of a GCM church-planting team. In 1990 he transitioned to full-time pastoral ministry with GCM, shepherding churches in Delaware and Centreville, VA, before planting Evergreen 5 years ago.
Tom’s roots can be traced to Las Vegas, where he first came to Christ and married his high school sweetheart, Paula. In California a few years later they both caught a vision to follow and serve the Lord. Tom is a talented musician and helped build the foundation for our current music ministry. He and Paula teamed up to launch our TreeClimbers children’s ministry and to develop it over the years.
Dan grew up near Yorktown, VA, and met Kristin at New Life Christian Fellowship (NLCF), which is GCM’s campus church at Virginia Tech University. They were married and moved to Northern Virginia after college and have been very active in small groups, music, discipleship and follow-up.
